November 4, 2011

Encouraged by acceleration in awarding of road projects, the Union Road Transport and Highways Ministry has expressed confidence of awarding over 7,000 km of road projects this fiscal.

The Ministry awarded 3,360 km in 2009-10 and 5,059 km awarded in the last fiscal. The government has said that the momentum was needed to improve to meet the target of 20 km per day. It was Prime Minister Manmohan Singh who had earlier exhorted the Ministry to achieve the 20 km per day road construction objective, entailing 7,300 km of construction per year.
